Mustang. Additional equipment have been installed for microwave BTS towers in the no-man’s land of North Korala of Nepal-China district.

A team from Nepal Telecom Provincial Directorate, Pokhara and Nepal Telecom Jomsom Office in coordination with Lomanthang Rural Municipality have installed additional communication equipment at Korala checkpoint on Saturday.

Three years ago, Nepal Telecom, Jomsom, had installed a BTS tower of microweb radio link at Korala checkpoint. Communication access was established at Korala checkpoint for the convenience of businessmen and tourists going for observation.

Although communication access was established at Korala Naka, the communication facility could not be reliable due to lack of equipment capacity for microwave radio link. Although Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has already constructed electric poles, the transmission line has not yet come into operation. The tower was operated with the help of solar energy as an alternative to the lack of electricity service at the checkpoint.

According to Hum Bahadur Bhujel, chief of Nepal Telecom Office in Jomsom, the capacity of battery and solar panels has been doubled to increase the capacity of solar energy towers to resolve telephone and internet problems seen at Korala checkpoint.

Chief Bhujel said that a team of technicians deputed at Korala checkpoint has been made to operate the BTS tower of Microwave Radio Link in the area and the number of battery back-off and solar panels of 2G and 4G BTS towers have been increased. According to him, 20 solar panels and three batteries of 150 ampere have been added for the BTS tower.

Tasinarbu Gurung, chairperson of Lomanthang Rural Municipality, said that 24-hour mobile network and internet facility has improved after the expansion of the capacity of the BTS tower. It has been easier for traders and tourists with the improvement in mobile network including 2G and 4G in Korlana.
