Rasuwa. The regular border coordination meeting between Nepal and China was held at the District Administration Office in Dhunche, Rasuwa.

Chief District Officer of Rasuwa Rajesh Panthi led the Nepali delegation in the meeting while the Chinese delegation was led by Chinese official Chu Jinshao.

During the meeting between the officials of the two countries on Saturday, special emphasis was laid on border security, trade facilitation, mutual coordination, control of border crimes and making citizen security more effective.

The meeting was fruitful in consolidating the long-standing historical friendship, mutual trust and cooperation between Nepal and China. Both sides are seen positive regarding easing the daily life, trade and mobility of the people in the mountainous region.

The Nepali side made special request to the Chinese authorities regarding the safety, health treatment and necessary facilitation of Nepali nationals residing in Kerung area in the course of work. Both sides have agreed to make the security agencies of both countries more alert and coordinated to control possible transaction and criminal activities taking place from the bordering areas.

Likewise, positive discussions were held regarding allowing Nepali drivers coming from outside Rasuwa to go to Kerung after fulfilling the necessary process. Nepali drivers and entrepreneurs have been enthused after the Chinese side indicated that drivers with passport and good conduct could be gradually facilitated.

It is expected that the trade and transportation sector will become more dynamic as there are signs of some flexibility in the Chinese provision that gave priority only to the drivers of the district earlier. According to the District Administration Office, such meetings are being held regularly as per the provision of holding alternate meetings in Kerung and Rasuwa to resolve the problems surfaced along the Nepal-China border, to continue the security coordination and mutual cooperation.

Milan Tamang, a local social worker, said that the positive atmosphere seen along the border, growing ease in trade activities and friendly relations between the two countries have added new hope and enthusiasm to the entire northern transit point including Rasuwa.
