138 people get permission to collect yarchagumba

Darchula. So far, 138 people have taken the license to collect Yarchagumba, the precious herb found in the mountainous region of Darchula.

The Apinampa Conservation Area Office, Darchula, started distributing permits from the last week of April and the same number of collectors have taken permission till Monday, according to the office.TAG_OPEN_div_18

According to Arun Chaudhary, information officer of the office, all the licenses issued so far are ‘blue cards’ issued to the indigenous people of the conservation area.TAG_OPEN_div_16 Permits are being distributed from 11 different places of the district including the Apinampa Conservation Area Office for the convenience of the collectors. The conservation area has determined three types of identity cards and fees based on the geographical location of the collector.

The fee for the ‘blue card’ has been fixed at Rs 500 for the local people within the conservation area, Rs 2,000 for the yellow card for the other citizens of Darchula district and Rs 3,TAG_OPEN_div_14 000 for the red card for the people of the district.

According to the Yarchagumba Transportation and Management Procedure-2073, the Patan where yarchagumba is available will be open only from May 29 to June 29 every year.TAG_OPEN_div_12 Although Patan is yet to open its time, some locals inside the conservation area have started collecting yarchagumba by reaching the mountainous region since mid-April.

Lolu, Apifed, Satganga, Kataighatte, Khola, Chaimatela, Dharamghar, Kshatinampa, Dopakhe and Dumling areas of Darchula are known as the major Patans where Yarchagumba is found.TAG_OPEN_div_10 The Apinampa Conservation Area Office has urged all stakeholders not to illegally collect yarchagumba and other valuable herbs without obtaining a license and to follow the legal process mandatory.
