Kathmandu. Although the government has abolished excise duty on electric vehicles, it has imposed customs duty.
Finance Minister Dr. KATHMANDU: Swarnim Wagle has removed excise duty on electric vehicles from the budget for the coming fiscal year 2083/84.
However, 20 percent customs duty has been levied on all types of electric vehicles.
Sub-headings 8703.80.91 and 8703.80.99 will be charged 2.5 percent clean infrastructure investment fee on motor vehicles with a turnover value of up to Rs 2 million at the time of import.
An additional 15 percent clean infrastructure investment fee will be levied on motor vehicles with sub-headings 8703.80.91 and 8703.80.99 above the transaction value of Rs 3 lakh and Rs 40 lakh.
An additional 70 percent clean infrastructure investment fee will be levied on motor vehicles falling under sub-headings 8703.80.91 and 8703.80.99 with a transaction value of more than Rs 4 million and Rs 5 million at the time of import.
Sub-headings 8703.80.91 and 8703.80.99 of motor vehicles having a transaction value of more than Rs 5 million at the time of import will be charged an additional 110 percent clean infrastructure investment fee.
It is stated that the Clean Infrastructure Investment Fee will be levied on the fixed price by adding the customs duty to the transaction value determined for the purpose of levying customs duty.
