Kathmandu. The Computer Association of Nepal (CAN Federation) and Nepal Mobile Distributors Association (NMA Federation) have started a strategic institutional partnership to develop the mobile industry in Nepal and solve the existing challenges.

An important ‘institutional alliance’ discussion was held between the high leadership level of both the organizations on Sunday (Jestha 17) at the central office of CAN Federation in Khusibu.

The meeting focused on policy ambiguities facing Nepal’s mobile sector, challenges of mobile (grey market) coming through unauthorized channels and regulation of the overall hardware and mobile ecosystem.

Chiranjibi Adhikari, Acting President of CAN Federation, and Raghu Tripathi, President of Nepal Mobile Distributors Association, expressed their commitment that this collaboration will create strong pressure at the state level to make the mobile market more secure, transparent and systematic.

The main agendas presented at the meeting include institutional identity and line of action between the two working committees, while common challenges include policy advocacy, grey market issues, and mobile ecosystem regulation

Similarly, a long-term roadmap will be prepared for joint cooperation in the future course of action.

Acting President of CAN Federation, Chiranjibi Adhikari, said that collaboration between the two organizations was inevitable to end the anomalies in the mobile and technology sector as the backbone of country’s economy. He said that joint advocacy would be made against illegal import (grey market) as it has caused loss of revenue to the state and the legal entrepreneurs are in trouble.

Raghu Tripathi, President of NMDA, said that the alliance with CAN Federation has given a lot of energy to the effective implementation of systems like Mobile Device Management System and practical import policy.
