Kathmandu. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against seven persons, including Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City, Rajesh Man Singh, on the charge of providing citizenship certificates to his daughter on the basis of fake documents.
The anti-graft body has filed corruption case against Mayor Singh of Birgunj Metropolitan City, Rita Bhattarai of Indrawati in Sindhupalchowk, then ward secretary of Birgunj-3 Bhikhari Raya and ward member Tufail Akhtar Thakurai and then administrative officer of District Administration Office, Parsa, Shad Kumar Pokharel.
The anti-graft body has also filed cases against the then under-secretary Pushkar Rana and section officer Parshuram Pokharel.
Singh, the mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City, was arrested last week and released on bail. He is the first mayor of the metropolis to face corruption charges.
