KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is all set to automate the services, records management and decision-making from the central and ward offices by fully embracing the e-governance system. The use of technology will also be given high priority by increasing digital literacy among people’s representatives and employees.
“GIS-based digital address system technology, interconnectivity with national and provincial digital systems, cybersecurity, and system maintenance programs will be promoted,” the policy and program for the fiscal year 2083/084 states that a KMC dashboard will be established and operated for regular monitoring and informing of planning, service delivery, development projects, revenue, expenditure, infrastructure, environment, disaster management and complaint management. ’
Likewise, programmes related to food hygiene, quality check, healthy kitchen, control of junk food, regulation of tobacco and alcohol, safe meat production and animal management will be run in an effective manner for the protection of consumers’ interest. “Arrangements will be made for home delivery of pesticide-free clean fruits and vegetables through agro pooling and metro mart by ensuring the quality of food items,” he said. “Standards with indicators related to the minimum standard of living of the metropolis will be determined and implemented,” the government’s policy and programme states, “Necessary arrangements will be made for the construction and operation of a well-managed slaughterhouse for the production and sale and distribution of clean, quality and safe meat.” The population of stray dogs and monkeys will be effectively managed by adopting humanitarian, scientific and technological measures to ensure animal welfare. ’
It has also mentioned that the cooperative sector will be promoted through regular monitoring, regulation, corporate governance and financial discipline by amending the legal provisions of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City in line with the national policy on cooperatives, federal and provincial laws. “The process related to reoperation, liquidation and dissolution of defunct cooperatives will be facilitated,” states the policy and program for the fiscal year 2083/084.
