Laying of pipes for Melamchi water distribution begins

. Work has begun to lay 1800 mm diameter pipe at Sundarijal area in order to distribute the water of Melamchi Water Supply Project in an effective manner in Kathmandu Valley.

According to the Project Implementation Directorate (PID), this is the largest pipe ever used by the PID for the distribution of drinking water in Nepal.TAG_OPEN_div_24

Directorate’s Chief and Engineer Ram Kumar Shrestha said the construction process has been forwarded for the expansion of drinking water distribution in Bhaktapur, Kirtipur, Madhyapur Thimi, Kapan, Jorpati and Pepsicola areas.TAG_OPEN_div_22

“Tenders have been called for the expansion of drinking water distribution network in five areas. Other processes will begin soon,” Shrestha said.

According to him, the Directorate has been working in both shifts day and night to supply Melamchi water to different areas of Kathmandu Valley in an effective manner.TAG_OPEN_div_18 According to the Project Implementation Directorate, works related to the construction of reserve tanks, pipeline expansion and construction of other infrastructures are going on in full swing at various places.

After the testing of the pipes, the entire system will be handed over to Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL).TAG_OPEN_div_16

Chief and Engineer Shrestha said that the Melamchi water will be distributed to the households of Kathmandu residents on a regular basis after the handover of the system.TAG_OPEN_div_14
