Kathmandu. Police have arrested Sabita Karki after 13 years on the charge of embezzling loan taken by influencing office-bearers and employees of Capital Merchant Banking and Finance.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested Karki from Gokarneshwor-4 in Kathmandu today. Police have arrested Karki who was absconding after being convicted of banking offense on the basis of a complaint filed by Nepal Rastra Bank.

Karki has been accused of submitting fake documents by registering a company in the name of Charitrik Builders Pvt Ltd and approving loan by influencing office bearers and employees of the then Capital Merchant Banking and Finance Limited by creating artificial business and project details in the name of housing and construction work.

A case of banking offence was filed against Karki on the charge of using the loan amount taken by Karki for other projects without investing it.

The Kathmandu District Court had slapped a three-year jail term and a fine of Rs 85 million on Karki based on the then Appellate Court’s verdict on May 11, 2014.

Karki has been presented before the Kathmandu District Court for the implementation of the verdict, police said.
