Kathmandu. KATHMANDU — The Karkat Sankranti festival is celebrated across the country today by bathing and donating to the country.

There is an ancient tradition that today is celebrated as Sawan Sankranti throughout the country on the first day of the Sun’s entry into the zodiac sign of Gemini. Since the sun moves towards the south from July, the southern solstice starts from today. Uttarayan that begins on Magh 1 and Dakshinayan that begins on July 15 is celebrated with special importance in the Vedic Sanatan tradition.
