Jhapa. Gangs of fraudsters have become active in Jhapa by luring them with old copper or coins with religious motifs to sell them at unnatural prices. The District Police Office, Jhapa, this week arrested three persons on the charge of their involvement in the fraud business.

The arrested include two Indian nationals and a Nepali. Police have arrested 31-year-old Najbul Ansari and 24-year-old Sarfaraz Miya from Haldibari Rural Municipality-1 in Jhapa district. Likewise, Sabir Miya, 35, of Itahari-8 of Sunsari district was arrested with four coins from Rupanchawari area of Barhadashi rural municipality-7.

According to Ranjan Awa, information officer at the District Police Office and Deputy Superintendent of Police, the fraudsters have been luring the general public by saying that the coins with old and religious motifs would be sold in foreign and foreign markets worth millions of rupees. Preliminary investigations have revealed that they were initially shown coins to convince them and then they were cheated by extorting money on the pretext of testing or buying coins. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Awa said that such gangs are more likely to flourish as most of the victims do not file a complaint due to legal complexities or embarrassment.

Police have urged the general public not to carry out financial transactions due to the temptation of selling goods worth millions overnight or making unnatural profits.
