Request to set up bench to look into cooperative fraud case

. KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration has submitted a report to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (SC) to form a dedicated bench to look into cooperative offences for speedy and speedy disposal of cases related to cooperative fraud.

Request has been made to form a dedicated bench to settle the cases of cooperative fraud as the number of cases related to cooperative fraud is increasing. According to the minister’s private secretariat, the Ministry has submitted a report prepared by forming a task force on the need and rationale of forming a dedicated bench to the Chief Justice.

The Ministry had formed a task force after the Supreme Court issued a directive order on January 25, 2082 to establish a dedicated bench in the district courts where the number of cases related to cooperative offenses is high and implement it on the basis of its findings.TAG_OPEN_div_12

Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration Pratibha Rawal submitted the report to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Dr Manoj Sharma.TAG_OPEN_div_10 The task force’s report defines cooperative crime as a socio-economic crime directly related to the lives, property and financial system of a large number of citizens, unlike ordinary frauds.

The report has concluded that a dedicated bench with special priority is necessary for the effective and speedy hearing of such cases.TAG_OPEN_div_8 According to the report, the risk of the victim savers not being able to get their savings back as the cases of cooperative fraud remain pending for a long time, delay in justice and various types of protection to the culprits. The task force has concluded that it is imperative to form a dedicated bench to provide timely justice to the victims, restore people’s trust in the cooperative sector and maintain financial good governance.
