Kathmandu. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast that the water level in the small rivers and rivulets flowing through 30 districts of the country is likely to rise significantly today and there is moderate risk of flash flood.
According to the Division, water level in the rivers in Taplejung, Ilam, Jhapa, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Morang, Sunsari, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Udayapur, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk and Kavrepalanchowk is likely to rise.
Likewise, water level is likely to increase in the rivers flowing through Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Nuwakot, Lamjung, Kaski, Myagdi, Baglung, Banke, Jajarkot, East Rukum, West Rukum, Surkhet, Darchula, Baitadi, Achham, Doti and surrounding districts.
The Division has urged the people living along the riverbanks and low-lying areas to stay alert, regularly follow updates on weather and floods and adopt the necessary precautions.
Department’s flood expert Binod Parajuli has urged the local levels and bodies to continuously monitor the river situation, disseminate information to the communities on time and remain on preparedness.
