AIDA & KU open applications for MIAID programme September 2026

. KATHMANDU: The Asian Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs (AIDA) has opened applications for the first academic session of the two-year Master’s in International Affairs, Economy and Diplomacy (MIAID) programme in partnership with Kathmandu University (KU).

This program has been launched with the objective of preparing young leaders with world-class skills in the international context which is becoming increasingly interconnected.

At a time when geopolitical competition is intensifying, the world economy is in a phase of continuous transformation, technological transformation is advancing at an unprecedented pace, and global challenges are becoming more complex than ever, the need for skilled manpower to understand and lead international affairs is felt more than ever. The MIAID program aims to combine academic excellence and practical policy experience to equip students with the knowledge, analytical abilities, and leadership skills necessary for global leadership.

According to Sunil K.C., Founder and Executive Chairman of IDA, the program is an academic partnership between Aida and Kathmandu University and covers topics related to international affairs, diplomacy, economics, public policy, strategic studies and global politics in an interdisciplinary curriculum tailored to international academic standards. Students will have the opportunity to connect theory to practice through policy labs, diplomatic simulations, negotiation exercises, practical research, executive dialogue, and direct interaction with experienced practitioners.

Eminent scholars, former ambassadors, diplomats, policy makers, development experts and industry experts from Nepal and abroad will be teaching in the program. Through this diverse academic and professional network, students will have the opportunity to study the major contemporary issues first-hand and gain hands-on experience in international policymaking and diplomacy.

“The two-year MIAED postgraduate program is divided into four semesters and consists of a total of 60 academic credits,” said Prof. Jim Smith, Dean of IDA-MIADE. Imtiaz Ahmad said, “The entire teaching of this program will be conducted through live classes in the English language. The program covers topics such as international affairs, diplomacy, international political economy, security and strategy, emerging global challenges, research methodology and leadership development. ”

In addition to classroom tutoring, students will have the opportunity to engage in research projects, attend international conferences, take field study trips, participate in professional networking events, engage in think tank activities, and participate in leadership development workshops. These activities will help not only strengthen their professional competence but also their global outlook.

Graduates of the MIAID program are qualified for leadership roles in a variety of fields, including foreign ministries, diplomatic missions, international organizations, UN agencies, regional institutions, development banks, public policy institutions, research centers, universities, international media, multinational companies, corporate public affairs, international business, consulting services, and the overall development sector. There will be.

“The program is open to civil servants, foreign service officers, military officers, development experts, corporate leaders, journalists, researchers, NGO and international non-governmental organizations, entrepreneurs, public policy experts, as well as recent graduates who are interested in international affairs and global leadership,” said Dr. Madhuri Dixit, Executive Vice President and Principal Ambassador of the IDA-MIAED program. The applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. The admission process will be conducted on a competitive basis through entrance test, interview and final selection. In order to ensure a qualitative, participatory and interactive learning environment, only 40 students will be enrolled in the first group. The best students will receive scholarships and fellowships on the basis of merit.
