Kathmandu. The Supreme Court (SC) has acquitted Milan Gurung aka Chakre Milan and his wife Indira Ghale Gurung in a money laundering case. They were booked on charges of hooliganism and illegal amassing of property through illegal activities.
A division bench of Justices Abdul Aziz Musalman and Megh Raj Pokharel upheld the Special Court’s verdict and acquitted them of the charge. With this, the money laundering charges against them have been dropped.
The Department of Money Laundering Investigation had filed a case against Milan Gurung and his wife for amassing property worth Rs 70.8 million through illegal means. The department had claimed that the property was obtained through various illegal activities.
However, the Special Court had acquitted them on January 24, 2017. The Money Laundering Investigation Department had filed an appeal at the Supreme Court challenging the special court’s decision.
