1,220-meter embankment constructed in Mahakali River

Kathmandu. Kanchanpur: A 2,220-metre embankment has been constructed in Kanchanpur district to control floods in the Mahakali River. The embankment was constructed to reduce the damage caused to human settlements and arable land on the banks of the Mahakali River every year.

The Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project Office Kanchanpur spent Rs 116.5 million to construct the embankment.

Project chief Ranjan Raj Bhattarai said the 458-metre RCC embankment has been constructed in Mahakali River and 255 metres in Jogbudha River.

The settlement at Kutiyakar of Dodhara Chandani Municipality, which has been affected by floods every year after the construction of the embankment, has become safe. The project had constructed a 762-metre embankment to protect the settlement.

Situated at the confluence of the Mahakali River in the east and Jogbudha River in the north, Kutiyakawar has been affected by the floods of the Jogbudha and Mahakali rivers every year. Repair of old structures for river control and management is being carried out regularly.

The office has been carrying out maintenance of the 25-year-old embankment along the Mahakali River as it is getting dilapidated. A dry port is being constructed at Dodhara Chandani across the Mahakali.
