TAG_OPEN_p_26 KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has said that the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has succeeded in maintaining the power supply despite the loss of life and property due to the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River.
Minister Shrestha said that NEA’s employees and technical team played an important role in keeping the electricity service operational by working continuously even when some employees are out of contact.TAG_OPEN_p_25
He said that although around 10 percent of the total power generation capacity of the country has gone out of the generation system due to floods, NEA has been able to keep the supply management balanced.TAG_OPEN_p_24
Stating that success has been achieved so far to keep the electricity system balanced, Minister Shrestha said that high priority was given to the necessary preparation and management as more challenges might come in the coming days due to big damage.TAG_OPEN_p_23
According to Minister Shrestha, power supply has been restored in most of the flood-hit areas of Nuwakot and works were underway to restore power supply in Rasuwa district.TAG_OPEN_p_22
According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the peak demand for electricity was 2,939 MW on Wednesday evening but it was reduced to 2,891 MW on Thursday evening. The demand for electricity in the Kathmandu Valley also dropped to 578 MW on Thursday from 590 MW on Wednesday, according to NEA.TAG_OPEN_p_21
According to NEA’s data, 62 MW of electricity was imported on Wednesday while the import was reduced to two MW on Thursday.TAG_OPEN_p_20

The NEA has been supplying about TAG_OPEN_p_18 seven megawatts of electricity to Nuwakot through alternative sources. According to the NEA, two megawatts of electricity are being supplied from Chapali, one megawatt from Indrawati, two megawatts from Tadi hydropower center and two more megawatts from Balaju-Trishuli system.
