Kathmandu. The government has said that the glacier has overflowed in a large lake near the confluence of China’s Chochen River and the Purepu Tsangpo River. However, the government claims that there is no immediate risk from the incident.

Talking to media persons after the cabinet meeting on Thursday, government spokesperson and Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel said that the water has overflowed along with the mud due to the glacier burst.

“There is no sign that the dam has burst anywhere. Due to the bursting of normal glaciers, there has been overflow of water with mud in many places,” he said, “There is no immediate risk, but there is a need to be vigilant.” ’

According to him, Nepal is constantly communicating with the Chinese side through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the incident. He said that there is no immediate threat from the Chinese side.

Spokesperson Pokharel urged the people residing near the river to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

Earlier, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Rasuwa, Narendra Pariyar, had said that he had received information from the Chinese side that the lake has burst.
