Membership of Cali benefits Nepal in enhancing legislative capacity and use of digital technology

TAG_OPEN_div_21 KATHMANDU — Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam has said that Nepal will benefit from the exchange of knowledge, experience and good practices in law formulation and formulation with the membership of the Asian Legislative Council (CALI).
Responding to the queries raised by lawmakers in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) on the proposal seeking endorsement of the accession to the Council of Asian Legislatures (CALI) with the declaration made clear by the Government of Nepal in its right, she said the proposal would help enhance legislative capacity and support in the use of digital technology.TAG_OPEN_div_19
“With the membership of Callie, research, training and expert-level collaboration will benefit Nepal’s lawmaking, strengthen regional legislative cooperation and international participation,” said Minister Gautam. She clarified that Cali aims to jointly address the legislative challenges posed by the impact of global issues such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence and climate change on society. The meeting unanimously passed the proposal.
Pramila Kuluju, Tara Joshi, Ganesh Bahadur Bishwakarma, Saraswati Lama, Amrita BK, Radhika Ramtel, Nishkal Rai, Sajida Khatun Siddiqui, Parbati BK, Guru Prasad Baral, Gyanu Poudel and Eshuda Kumari Baral said that attention should be paid to Nepal’s national interest, economic responsibility and long-term benefits while taking membership of international organizations.TAG_OPEN_div_15
Prior to this, Minister Gautam presented a proposal seeking a discussion on the accession of the Asian Legislative Council (CALI) to the House with a declaration that the Government of Nepal has made it clear in its right.TAG_OPEN_div_13
Speaker Aryal said that no notice of amendment has been received from any lawmaker regarding the proposal. The next meeting of the House of Representatives will be held on September 14 at 1 pm.TAG_OPEN_div_11
