Kathmandu. The Ministry of Education and Sports has decided to take action against teachers involved in political activities.

Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel directed to take action against the teachers involved in any political activities after the issue of teachers indulging in political activities disappeared from the social media. He also directed to monitor the political activities of teachers in schools across the country.

Meanwhile, the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Baitedi has directed the local levels to monitor the participation of school teachers in the political parties.

Issuing a letter to all 10 local levels of the district, the unit said that some school teachers were found participating in the programmes of different political parties.

The letter has urged the government to closely monitor whether the teachers working in the schools under the local level have participated in the programmes of the political parties.

Likewise, the unit has urged the local levels to take necessary action as per the prevailing laws if any teacher is found carrying out activities violating the teachers’ conduct and standards determined by the prevailing Education Act and Regulations.

The directive has been mentioned in a letter issued by Dashrath Dutta Bhatta, Unit Chief of Education Development and Coordination Unit, Baitadi. The Ministry of Education and Sports has also been given a copy of the letter.

Meanwhile, the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Sindhuli has directed the local levels to take action if the teachers and staffers were found actively participating in the programmes of the political parties.

The unit has written to Dudhauli Municipality, Sunkoshi Rural Municipality and Tinpatan Rural Municipality informing them that the teachers and employees have participated in the political party programs through various means including social media.

The letter, issued by Dinesh Prasad Devkota, the unit chief and under-secretary, states that four teachers and employees have been found involved in political activities on the basis of material published on social media. The letter mentions the names of Prem Prasad Bhattarai, Sarveshwar Koirala, Arjun Kumar Gautam and Yatiraj Timalsina.

Stating that such activities would be against the provisions mentioned in the Education Regulations-2059 (with the tenth amendment), the local levels have been requested to take necessary action against the teachers and employees concerned as per the prevailing laws.

It has also been asked to inform the Education Development and Coordination Unit about the action taken. The information of the letter has been given to the Department of Education under the Ministry of Education and Sports.
