338 trucks, containers missing, 441 drivers, helpers and businessmen missing in floods

{{TAG_OPEN_div_36} Kathmandu. A total of 338 trucks and containers have gone missing in the floods in Timure of Rasuwa district on August 26. According to the information provided by the Federation of Truck Transport Entrepreneurs to the Department of Transport Management, 441 drivers, helpers and businessmen have also lost contact with the vehicles due to the floods.

While collecting data on the human and physical damage caused by the Bhotekoshi floods in the public transport sector, the Department of Transport Management had asked for the data of the damage from government and non-governmental organizations, private organizations, media, researchers and stakeholders. The department had issued a notice on September 18 asking them to provide details of the damage within seven days.

Following the department’s request, the Federation of Truck Transport Entrepreneurs of Nepal sent the preliminary damage details to the department on September 24. The federation has provided the details collected from various member associations, committees and companies to the department.TAG_OPEN_div_32

Rajendra Bikram Baniya, president of the federation, said that the cargo vehicles and the people involved in the floods that occurred in the Tibet region of China on the morning of August 26 caused a big loss in the Timure area. He said that after the Department of Transport Management requested to collect the exact details of the damage, the federation collected the details received from the member organizations and sent it.TAG_OPEN_div_30

According to the details, 217 trucks and containers of Nepal Truck Container Transport Service Pvt Ltd, Lokanthali and 251 drivers, helpers and businessmen are out of contact. According to the report, 58 trucks and containers and 78 people are from Narayani Transport Entrepreneurs Association, Hetauda, 21 vehicles and 35 vehicles from Terai Transport Entrepreneurs Association Simara, and 10 containers and 20 from Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Association Nepal, Balkhu.TAG_OPEN_div_28

Similarly, 21 trucks and containers belonging to Gandaki Truck Entrepreneurs Association, Pokhara, and 11 containers and 22 others of Western Regional Transport Entrepreneurs Committee Butwal are out of contact.TAG_OPEN_div_26

Arjun Bahadur Sapkota, president of Nepal Truck Container Entrepreneurs Association, said that the number of missing vehicles and persons could go up as more details are being collected.TAG_OPEN_div_24

Federation President Baniya said that the details received are preliminary and they will also be included if further data comes. According to him, the government should take necessary initiatives for the relief, compensation and rehabilitation of the affected businessmen and families along with the collection of exact details of the damage caused by the floods.TAG_OPEN_div_22

The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has formed a committee to prepare a report on the assessment of human and physical damages in the public transport sector, the basis of compensation and other issues as per the decision of a meeting held on September 12 under the chairmanship of the Minister for Infrastructure Development.TAG_OPEN_div_20

The department had urged the organizations to provide data on the damage caused by the disaster and said that the organizations should disclose their identity and send the details and if possible, mention the source of the data. The federation has collected the details from the associations and committees under it and sent it to the department.
