Over 100 houses inundated by Narayani River

Nawalparasi. Locals have been shifted to safer places after the Narayani River entered Susta of Susta Rural Municipality-5 in West Nawalparasi.

According to the District Administration Office, Nawalparasi, the locals have been shifted to safer places by deploying security personnel for disaster rescue immediately after water started entering the Susta settlement.TAG_OPEN_div_16

TAG_OPEN_div_14Rabindra Jaiswal, spokesperson of Save Susta, said that most of the houses in Susta were inundated after the flood in the Narayani River entered Susta. He said that more than 100 houses here have been inundated due to incessant rain since Friday afternoon. According to him, 220 families have been living here. He said that the first flood entered the Tharu locality of Susta.

Deepak Raj Nepal, Chief District Officer of the District Administration Office, Nawalparasi, said that the people of the flooded houses have been kept in a shelter in Susta. He said that preparations are being made to bring women, children, elderly people and those with physical disabilities to BP Secondary School Balinagar in Susta-5 on the banks of the Narayani River as the water level in the river is continuously rising. According to him, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army have been mobilized for this.TAG_OPEN_div_12

Superintendent of Police (SP) Govinda Bahadur Khati said that the Armed Police Force (APF) has rescued 29 people who were inundated by the floods so far and sent them to safer places. Munshi Kumar Harijan, a local of Susta, said that apart from the concrete houses, the damage was more than the mud houses (made of weeds and mud) after the floods. The Narayani River has recorded the highest water level of this year. According to the Gandak Barrage Balmikinagar, 280,000 cusecs of water has reached the Narayani River.TAG_OPEN_div_10
