KATHMANDU: Various major highways and road sections of the country have been obstructed due to floods, landslides and road collapses caused by incessant rainfall in the last four days.

According to Nepal Police, roads in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Kavrepalanchowk, Chitwan, Manang, Baglung, Rolpa, Kalikot, Gulmi, Myagdi, Mustang, Humla, Nawalparasi East, Palpa, Lalitpur, Lamjung, Tanahun and Parbat have been affected by the floods.

The Pasang Lhamu Highway in Rasuwa district has been completely obstructed after the flood eroded most of the area on the banks of the Trishuli River. However, the police said that a one-lane dirt alternative road from Kathmandu to Syafrubesi via Tokha-Chhahare-Bidur-Nuwakot, Durbar-Phalante-Chokde-Lachyang-Sarmathali-Pacharyang-Bhorle-Zero-Kimmi, Kalikasthan-Syaubari-Ramche-Sole-Dhunche can be used.

The movement of public and private vehicles except for essential services has been closed on the Tokha-Chhahare road section of Nuwakot from 10 pm to 5 am. This provision will remain in force until further notice.

Vehicular traffic has been affected due to landslides at different places along the Prithvi Highway. According to the police, the road has been opened for one-way traffic after a landslide with a big stone fell at Krishnabhir area and the road has been completely disrupted due to landslides at Panidhara at Benighat Rorang-10.

All vehicular movement along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section of Chitwan has been halted until further notice. On the other hand, the BP Highway has been obstructed due to landslides at Roshi Rural Municipality-7 Charsaibesi and Roshi-8 Gimdibesi of Kavre-Palanchok. According to the police, the Araniko Highway has been obstructed due to a landslide at Pakucha of Dhulikhel Municipality-8.

Vehicular movement has been stopped on the Besisahar-Khangsar road section of Manang from 6 pm to 6 am in Gandaki Province. The Chame-Besisahar road section of Manang has been completely obstructed due to a landslide.

Similarly, the Mid-Hill Highway and Kaligandaki Corridor of Baglung, the Ghorahi-Thawang-Rukum Martyrdom Road of Rolpa and the Karnali Highway in Kalikot have also been obstructed due to landslides and mudslides. The Ridi-Tamghas Madanbhandari Highway, Rudrabeni-Bamitaksar road and Kaligandaki Corridor have been obstructed due to landslides and increased water level in different parts of Kaligandaki Corridor.

The Beni-Jomsom corridor of Myagdi, Jomsom-Korala of Mustang, Karnali corridor of Humla, Kaligandaki corridor of Nawalparasi (east), Siddhartha Highway of Palpa and Kantilok road of Lalitpur have also been obstructed due to landslides. Likewise, the Besisahar-Manang road section of Lamjung, the Mid-Hill Highway, the Prithvi Highway of Tanahun and the Maldhunga-Beni road section of Parbat have also been obstructed due to landslides.

It has been decided to stop the night traffic on various dangerous roads of the country and to completely stop traffic on some roads. The police have urged people not to travel unnecessarily on risky roads and to travel only after the information of the local administration and security bodies.
