Lamjung. Although the repair of the damaged road has been started after the floods and landslides following the incessant rains of the last four days, it is estimated that it will take about a week to bring it fully into operation.
Nabin Bista, information officer of the Dumre-Besisahar-Chame Road Project Office, said that the road has been damaged mainly in three places. Apart from this, dozens of small and big landslides have also damaged the road in different places. “The road has been damaged in many places now”, he said, adding that it may take at least a week to bring it fully into operation. According to him, about 25 to 30 meters of road has collapsed in the Rambazar area of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-4. Preparations are underway to open the road in the area. He said that work is underway to open the road by removing small obstacles around Rambazaar. Landslides with big boulders have occurred in Naso Rural Municipality-3 of Manang.
He said that bomb blasting is necessary to remove the big boulders. The Marsyangdi river has also eroded the road in Kotro area. Wooden bridges at two places have been washed away. The project is using two dozers to open the road and is preparing to bring one more dozer from Nuwakot. He said that preparations are underway to open the road by mobilizing all three dozers. He said that technical study would also be needed to manage the damage to the road in some places. Recalling that the Besisahar-Chame road was obstructed for a long time due to floods and landslides in 2078 BS, he said that it will take time to bring the road into full operation as many places have been damaged at once.TAG_OPEN_div_13
The 65-kilometer-long Besisahar-Chame road is the main road connecting Manang to the national road network. The movement of people of Manang has been affected due to the damage to the road, as well as the transportation of essential commodities including food, medicines, construction materials, etc. He said that the problem of drinking water has started in Manang now and most of the food and essential materials have to be brought from outside.TAG_OPEN_div_11
