Kathmandu. A solar system has been installed at the telephone tower of Nepal Telecom, which is being operated from a diesel generator in Timure, Rasuwa.

Nepal Telecom has brought into operation a 12 KW solar panel to keep the electricity service of Timure uninterrupted for a long time.

When the power supply was cut off due to the floods in Rasuwa Bhotekoshi on August 10, the telephone tower in Timure was operated by running a diesel generator. However, the diesel required for the operation of the tower had to be transported by helicopter. With the operation of the solar system, the compulsion to transport diesel regularly for the tower has been removed.

Nepal Telecom has installed a 12-kilowatt solar system in Timure-Khaidi by transporting the necessary equipment and materials by helicopter. With this, Nepal Telecom’s 2G and 4G services will be operated smoothly in the Timure area even if there is no electricity service.

Telecommunication infrastructure and services in various districts including Rasuwa were affected due to the flooding in the Bhotekoshi River. Due to the disruption of power supply in the Timure area, they had to depend on generators to operate the telephone service.

With the operation of the solar system, the required energy for the operation of telephone and mobile internet services has become available alternatively. This will make it easier to provide telecommunication services to the local residents, passengers and service recipients living in the border areas.
