Both Marsyangdi hydropower projects resume operation

Lamjung. Two major hydropower projects in Lamjung, which were closed since Sunday morning due to the rise in the water level and flow in the Marsyangdi River, have resumed.

The 70 MW Middle Marsyangdi and 50 MW Upper Marsyangdi ‘A’ hydropower projects operating in the district have come into operation from today.TAG_OPEN_div_18

TAG_OPEN_div_16 The Middle Marsyangdi Hydropower Project located in Dalal of Besisahar Municipality-1 has resumed operation from this afternoon. The project was completely shut down from Sunday morning after the water level and flow in the river rose to a dangerous situation.

According to Tara Dutta Bhattarai, chief of the project, the water from the project was completely drained into the river after the production was stopped. He said that the power generation started again from this afternoon after the flow of the river became normal. According to him, there is no immediate danger in the river. Bhattarai said that the 70 MW Madhyamarsyangdi Project has two turbines of 35 MW each.TAG_OPEN_div_14

Similarly, the 50 MW Upper Marsyangdi ‘A’ Hydropower Project at Bhulbhule of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-8 has come into operation from 11:50 am today. According to the engineer of the project, Karna Adhikari, the power generation has started from 11:50 am today after completing the necessary technical work, cleaning and other arrangements.TAG_OPEN_div_12

Both the projects had stopped power generation citing safety after the water level in the Marsyangdi River increased. Both the projects were restarted after completing the necessary technical and managerial work after the water level in the river receded.TAG_OPEN_div_10
