Kathmandu. A total of 27 cases have been registered against 26-year-old Ayan Majhi, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in a series of chain robberies, motorcycle theft and robbery in the Kathmandu Valley.
According to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, Majhi, a resident of Marin Rural Municipality-5 in Sindhuli district, who is currently living at Kalanki Dhungada in Kathmandu, has been found to be the mastermind behind the robbery.
Police arrested him with a motorcycle from the roadblock under Jadibuti Bridge in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-32 on October 7. During the arrest, the police fired two rounds in the air as a warning after the fisherman tried to flee after he tried to attack the police with a sharp weapon. He was then taken under control after firing a round of bullet below the knee, police said.
Police have arrested two more people from Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-4 in Bhaktapur while searching for other members of the Majhi group. The arrested have been identified as Manoj Kumar Moktan, 36, of Bakaiya Rural Municipality-7 in Makwanpur and Rakesh Thing, 34, of Bakaiya-5. According to the police, the Moktan group used to be involved in the robbery by riding motorcycles and Thing sitting behind.

According to the police, Majhi has been arrested repeatedly in the case of robbery and theft in the past. The court had sentenced him to six more months in jail after spending three months in the robbery case of 2077. Majhi, who was absconding in the same case, was released from jail after serving three months in April 2082.
Even after that, he was active in criminal activities, police said. According to the police, he is a defendant in 27 cases related to robbery and theft at the District Police Range, Bhaktapur, Area Police Office, Banepa and District Police Range, Kathmandu on different dates.

Majhi group’s involvement in the last two incidents

Similarly, on September 29, at around 11:40 pm, a three-and-a-half tola gold chain tied around the neck of a person in a car driven by Ramesh Khadki was looted on the road section of Dallu Chautara of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-15. According to the police, the estimated value of the chain is Rs 10.50 lakh.
