We welcome Starlink’s competition: Reliance Industries

After Elon Musk accused him of trying to stop the expansion of Starlink’s service in India, Reliance Industries has refuted it and said that it welcomes competition in satellite internet services.

In a statement issued on Friday, Reliance said that providing the best service to the customers is the standard of real competition and it is ready to compete with service providers including Starlink.TAG_OPEN_div_19

Tech billionaire Musk accused India’s ‘elites’ of obstructing the expansion of Starlink’s services to protect their monopoly. He claimed that Starlink was ‘blocked’ in India on social media X and called it a crime against the Indian people. Musk also sarcastically referred to Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani as the ‘Prime Minister’.

Its potential entry has sparked a debate over service charges and radio spectrum allocation in India. Following Musk’s allegations, India’s communications ministry said that a fair and non-discriminatory licensing system has been implemented for all telecom service providers.

Jio Platforms, the digital arm of Reliance, had signed an agreement with Musk’s company SpaceX to provide Starlink services in March 2025. However, Jio’s satellite internet service is yet to get regulatory approval, while Starlink has not started services in India. Reliance has said that all service providers, including Jio, should comply with Indian laws and policies.TAG_OPEN_div_13
