Kathmandu. On the occasion of Kukur Tihar, Golyan Foundation has started a campaign ‘Not a garland for a day, but love for every day’ with the aim of promoting the protection, health safety and humane behavior towards animals. The campaign was launched from Chakkubakku Tole of New Baneshwor of Metropolitan City-10.
According to the foundation, the campaign has been started with the aim of transforming the tradition of honoring the dog with garlands on one day of the festival into love, kindness and responsible behavior throughout the year. The campaign is expected to promote the health and safety of community dogs, reduce the risk of animal-borne diseases, and promote coexistence between humans and animals.
According to the Golyan Foundation, the campaign will be run as a pilot project for three months in the initial phase. Under the campaign, the community dogs will be fed nutritious food, the necessary vaccinations and awareness will be raised about their health and protection.
In addition, during this pilot project, the actual data of community dogs, their health status, the cost of management and the effectiveness of local cooperation will be examined. Based on the data obtained, a concrete framework will be prepared to make such campaigns sustainable and scientific in the future, the foundation said.
At the launch of the campaign, Member of the House of Representatives, Ranju Darshana, said that humanity is reflected in the respect for the dog, which is a good friend of the people and the security guard of the community. By starting this campaign, the Golyan Foundation has shown high humanity towards the animals, she said, and the respect of the community dog has also made the community responsible.
Akshay Golyan, president of Golyan Group and Golyan Foundation, said that the campaign will help in the safety and respect of dogs, good friends and loyal guardians of the community. He said that there is a cultural tradition of worshiping dogs once a year to be respected.
Jyoti Gaire, Chief Executive Officer of Golyan Foundation, said that the campaign will play a role in fulfilling the basic needs of dogs dependent on the streets and public areas and making the society’s attitude towards them positive. He said that based on the experience and achievements gained from the three-month pilot project, the campaign will be made more effective in the coming days.
“Everyone has the same sense of belonging in this city and street, which is a reality that we have to internal,” she said, adding that the campaign launched by Golyan Foundation carries this sentiment. Gaire also appealed positively to the citizens who are not animal lovers or are afraid of dogs, adding that it is not necessary that everyone should love dogs, but at least we urge the entire community not to throw stones, not to misbehave and not to obstruct the volunteers who feed them.
The Foundation has coordinated with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Ward No. 10 offices. The Foundation’s own dedicated volunteers and partners will be deployed to run the campaign. The volunteers will provide nutritious food including rice and meat daily to the community dogs within their designated area. Similarly, regular health check-ups will be conducted by the veterinary team and specialists and vaccination will be done as per the requirement.
The foundation has taken the responsibility of vaccinating all the community dogs in the Ward No. 10 area with rabies, distemper and canine kerena virus. A vaccination campaign will be started in coordination with the metropolis. Apart from this, regular health check-ups of dogs will also be conducted. Diseases like deworming, heat, allergies will also be identified and treated, according to the foundation.
Reflecting colours will be provided to the community dogs included in the campaign and vaccinated. It is believed that the risk of road accidents will also be reduced as the dogs can be seen even at night. According to the Golyan Foundation, it will be easy to count the number of dogs in the workplace on the basis of identification signals, manage food and vaccines, and ensure safety alerts.
Golyan Group and Golyan Foundation have been continuously active in the field of social welfare and community service. After the floods in Bhotekoshi of Rasuwa on August 23, the Foundation had set up a temporary shelter center at Shree Chandra Jyoti Secondary School in Bidur, Nuwakot and provided shelter, food, relief materials and psychosocial counseling to the displaced families.
Similarly, the education of the children of the martyred families of the Jenji movement and the health treatment of the elderly members are being supported. The ‘Kukur Tihar, Harya Din’ campaign is another link in this continuous commitment to the community.
