Suspension bridge damaged in Gandigad bridge

Achham. Even after 16 months of the agreement, the construction of the Gandigad motorable bridge at Sokat of Chaurpati Rural Municipality-2 in Achham district on the border of Achham and Doti districts has not moved forward.

The Infrastructure Development Office, Sanphebagar had signed an agreement with the SSNSCPCS-ACJV Dhangadhi-5, Kailali to construct a 40-meter long bridge at Gandigad linking Chaurpati Rural Municipality-2 and Dipayal Silgadhi Municipality-8 of Achham.TAG_OPEN_div_22

The suspension bridge at Gandigad was damaged when a big boulder fell from above while the dozer was making a road for the construction of a motorable bridge. Due to the damage to the suspension bridge, most of the people are commuting through the same dilapidated bridge every day.

Bhim Bahadur Saud, chairman of Chaurpati Rural Municipality, said that the infrastructure development office has not paid any attention despite repeated reminders. He alleged that the authorities implementing the project are silent even though the citizens are forced to travel riskyly.TAG_OPEN_div_18

An agreement was signed with the construction company for the construction of the motorable bridge at a cost of Rs 52.1 million on July 22, 2082. Dhruba Saud, a local, said that due to the lack of the bridge, it is difficult to take patients to the village for treatment. Local students from Achham to study in Dipayal and Siliguri of Doti have been taking risks through this bridge.

“Forget about motorable bridges, even the condition of suspension bridges is not good,” Saud said.

Devi Prasad Upadhyay, information officer at Infrastructure Development Office, Safebgar, Achham, said that the office has already written to those involved in the construction to expedite the construction work.TAG_OPEN_div_12
