Kathmandu. The Ministry of Urban Development has set a target of constructing 200 suspension bridges in the next fiscal year. Addressing a press conference today, the Ministry said it has set a target of repairing 100 suspension bridges, constructing 40 new road bridges and repairing 30 road bridges in the fiscal year 2082/83 BS.
Joint Secretary and Spokesperson at the Ministry, Narayan Prasad Mainali, said that the targeted suspension bridge would be constructed with the coordination and cooperation of the three-tier government. According to him, 3,700 hectares of land will be irrigated after the completion of 249 irrigation projects in the next fiscal year.
Similarly, 100 kilometers of roads will be constructed, 300 kilometers of roads will be blacktopped and 60 local administrative buildings will be constructed.
The ministry has set a target of upgrading 10 kilometers of roads in rivers and rivulet corridors of the Valley, conservation of public land and construction of parks at 26 different places in the Valley. The physical development plan for land integration at four places in the Valley — Jitpur Phedi, Dukuchhap, Ishan Naya Sahar and Tathvi Chalavuma —has been approved and the target is to start land development works, stop encroachment of public land and remove illegal structures. For the systematic urbanization of the Valley, plans have been included to promote greenery, awareness, collect sky water, conserve forests and ponds.
The government has also started the construction of the second phase of international standard stadium at Kirtipur Cricket Ground soon. As part of the construction of the houses of vips, it has been planned to start the construction of the Speaker’s house and the Chief Justice’s house. The government aims to carry forward the construction of an international level exhibition site and amusement park at Bhrikutimandap.
Similarly, there is an action plan to continue beautification of bagmati river and installation of CCTV cameras and streetlights from Balkhu to Gokarna area of Bagmati corridor.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Urban Development has clarified that the rumors of cutting the galchi of Chobhar are baseless. Uddhav Nepal, deputy director of the Empowered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee, said that there was unrestrained propaganda about the erosion.
The government has started the construction of the federal parliament building at Singha Durbar at its full capacity. Director General of the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, Machakaji Maharjan, said that the construction work was going on at a fast pace so that the upcoming winter session would be started from Singha Durbar. “The interior decoration work of the under-construction parliament building is going on in full swing,” he said. Interior finishing, painting and mechanical works will be completed in the current fiscal year. We are working to conduct the meeting in the upcoming winter session. ’
