Bhadrapur. A total of 95 people lost their lives in 1,296 road accidents in the fiscal year 2081/82 (July-June) in the district. A total of 1,934 people sustained minor injuries and 139 were seriously injured in the accident.
According to Ganesh Poudel, chief police inspector at the District Traffic Police Office, Jhapa, action has been taken against 52,875 drivers in the last one year. A total of Rs 39,555,560 revenue has been collected from the operation. Similarly, 3,174 people have been booked for consuming alcohol, out of which more than Rs 1.8 million has been collected, said Police Inspector Poudel.
Under the traffic awareness programme across the district, 8,461 school-level students have been given traffic rules classes while 1,250 have been provided with measurement awareness training, poudel said. Meanwhile, traffic violation record system (TVRAS) and online fine payment system have been implemented in the district making traffic management technology-friendly, he said.
In the last fiscal year 2081/82, the office used 70 reflector belts, 30 traffic sign boards, 4 magic lights, 3 breathalyzers, 7 computers, 1 GoPro camera and 1 laptop for vehicle regulation.
Various local levels, schools, hospitals, media organisations and community centers have also collaborated in the traffic improvement campaign. According to him, the program targeting students of classes 6 to 10, auto/city drivers, and other aspects of the society has given a message of common efforts in road safety.
