Kathmandu. Kathmandu: Nepal has been elected as the chairman of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSAC). Nepal has also taken charge after being elected to the Council on Thursday.
Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations Lok Bahadur Thapa has said that nepal’s election as the chairman of the Council is a “historic moment” for Nepal and its enduring commitment to multilateralism.
Ambassador Thapa expressed commitment that Nepal will make every effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will continue to work towards strengthening partnership and multilateralism along with the effective implementation of the initiatives taken so far, according to the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York.
“I will focus on restoring trust in multilateralism, empowering those at risk of reducing divisions, and transforming commitments into action,” he said.
Algeria, Spain, Dominican Republic and Armenia have been elected vice presidents for the coming year.
