Sunsari. A landslide triggered by incessant rainfall for the past three days has damaged a house at Hridayendra Marg in Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City-3 and put more than 12 houses at high risk.
The landslide that occurred at around 1.30 am damaged the upper part of the house of Chhajung Bhote, a local of Dharan-3. Bhote said, “There was a loud noise at night, i was afraid of an earthquake. When i came out, I saw a landslide. The upper part of the house was buried and the house was completely damaged. ’
Kaushal Shrestha, a local, said they have to stay awake throughout the night in fear of landslides since the rain started. Mingma Bhote, a ward member of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City-3, who rushed to the spot immediately after the incident, said the disaster management budget of the ward and the construction of the wall would be carried out in collaboration with the municipality.
According to him, more than 12 houses in the area are at high risk. The ward office is currently collecting details of the damage, he said. Last year, landslides in the same area of Dharan-3 had put the settlement at risk.
At that time, rs 500,000 was allocated from the ward and Rs 1.4 million from the municipality to prevent landslides.
