Mountain. Korunga village of Deupur of Modi rural municipality-2 in the district is at risk due to incessant rain. The entire village is at risk as the landslide from the cliff has not stopped. Half a dozen families live here. After the construction of the Patichaur-Deupur-Lapsibot road, the landslide of Korunga, which started for almost a decade, has increased towards the settlement. At present, five families here are at high risk.
The house of local Tikaram Jaisi has collapsed due to the landslide, while the house of Kumar KC is at high risk. With the help of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and local residents, the goods have been shifted to safer places and temporary tents have also been constructed. According to Baburam Jaisi, the residents stay awake throughout the night due to lack of efforts to prevent landslides.
Locals have complained that the risk is increasing every year due to lack of necessary initiatives to prevent landslides that started a few years ago. Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Rabin Bista, said that they have been urged to take necessary precautions as the landslide has not stopped.
Last year, the main road connecting ward no. 1, 2, 3 and 4 from the centre of the rural municipality was completely blocked for three months due to the same landslide. About two kilometers of the road has been damaged in korunga section of Patichaur Deupur Lapsibot road. This year too, the road has been completely blocked.
Locals have been facing a lot of problems as the main road connecting the rural municipality center has been blocked. Bhumiraj Sharma, a local teacher, said that there was a lot of problem in the movement due to lack of maintenance of other alternative roads. He said that it was difficult to operate the Beteni Gauda island road, which was an alternative, due to lack of upgradation. The Nayapul Makh Thulipokhari road has also been damaged due to landslides at various places.
Roads in rural areas are damaged without completion due to the construction of roads in a haphazard manner without taking into account the environmental and geographical conditions and lack of proper drainage system. Locals say that the construction work carried out during the rainy season is also causing disaster.
