Kathmandu. Krishna Janmashtami is being celebrated across the country today.

Lord Krishna, the pioneer of knowledge yoga, karma yoga and bhakti yoga, was born at the midnight of Bhadrakrishna Ashtami in the Dwapar Yuga, so today’s day is called ‘Krishna Janmashtami’ and the night is called ‘Mohratri’. On this day, worship of Lord Krishna, discourses, bhajan kirtan are performed in Krishna temples across the country, especially women and men, and stay awake throughout the night.

Born as the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu to protect all human beings from injustice, tyranny and demonic tendencies, Shri Krishna inspired the human community to do good deeds by remaining in favor of truth throughout his life.

‘Shrimad Bhagavatgita’ is considered to be a holy book expressed from the mouth point of Shri Krishna himself while preaching to Arjuna, one of the Pandavas involved in the battle with the Kauravas in Kurukshetra. This book, also known as Gita in short, is believed to have been translated into the largest number of languages in the world.

It is mentioned in the mythological texts that Shri Krishna, who has seen his strange leela since childhood, killed demonic tendencies like Kansa, Jarasandha and Shishupala. On this occasion, a fair is held at the famous Krishna Temple at Mangalbazar in Patan today. Similarly, devotees throng Navtandham in Kageshwori Manohara Municipality in the north-eastern part of the capital. Devotees also throng the Krishna Temple at the Office of The Nepal International Sri Krishna Consciousness Association (ISCON) at Budhanilkantha in the northern region.

On this occasion, devotees also throng the Shri Krishna Temple located in different parts of the capital today. On this occasion, various religious organizations of Kathmandu have taken out processions and rath yatras with the tableau of Shri Krishna.
