‘National ID card is not mandatory for disabled and senior citizens’

Kathmandu. Kathmandu: The Department of National Identity Card and Registration has reminded the provision of children, disabled, helpless or senior citizens above 90 years of age who cannot take care of themselves.

The Department reminded the provision after various local levels said that identity cards are mandatory and there are difficulties in service delivery.

The Department has clarified further after complaints that senior citizens are suffering for the purpose of getting social security allowance and disabled people also need a national identity card number.

The government had published a notification in the Nepal Gazette on July 15, 2018, making national identity card or national identity card number mandatory in various public services. Social security allowance, insurance pension, revenue, driving license, company registration, banking and financial services, telephone and SIM card, social security fund and identity card have been made mandatory for real estate transactions.

Director of the Department, Mukesh Kumar Keshari, said that the Department has clarified through a notice on Monday that the national identity card number has been sought from various local levels and service providers and they have to reach the service unit with difficulty.
