Ishwori Devi Neupane elected chairperson of State Affairs Committee

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress lawmaker Ishwori Devi Neupane has been nominated for the post of chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives. Secretary of the House of Representatives Harkaraj Rai said neupane had filed his candidacy for the post as scheduled till 4 pm on Tuesday.

The deadline for registration of the proposal for election to the post of president was 1 pm to 4 pm on Tuesday. Neupane’s candidacy was registered at 3.04 pm.

Nc lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada had registered a proposal to elect Neupane to the post of president. CPN (UML) lawmaker Krishna Gopal Shrestha supported the proposal.

Khatiwada had resigned from the post of president on August 27 following the report of the parliamentary special investigation committee on the issue of irregularities in the cooling-off period of the civil service bill. Neupane has been confirmed to be the president on the proposal of Khatiwada, who resigned taking moral responsibility.

Although there is a single candidacy, the president is yet to be formally announced. A meeting of the State Affairs Committee has been convened at 3 pm on Wednesday to elect the president.

The proposal will be presented for decision in the meeting. “The committee meeting is scheduled at 3 pm tomorrow. The agenda of tomorrow’s meeting is the election of the chairman of the committee. Neupane had resigned from the post of chairman of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee (United) on Tuesday.
