Tanahun. Tanahun: A total of 863 metric tonnes of potatoes have been produced in Tanahun under the Potato Promotion Project programme. In the fiscal year 2081/82 BS, 13 groups of farmers produced potatoes in 1,000 ropanis of land.

Gopal Sharma Lamichhane, chief of the office, said potato was cultivated in clusters through farmers’ groups and cooperatives. Potatoes have to be cultivated on at least 30 ropanis of land in a cluster. A budget of Rs 9.33 million has been allocated for the programme, he said. For this, 80 quintals of potato seeds were provided to each group.

According to Office Chief Lamichhane, potato seeds of Janakdev, MS and Kadinal varieties were provided to the farmers at 75 percent subsidy. He said that they have also been provided with various tools for farming.
