Mustang. Inmates and security personnel are forced to stay in the same building at jomsom jail. Inmates live in two rooms of the prison building and security personnel working there in three other rooms. Different types of problems and challenges arise when prisoners and security personnel reside in the same prison building.

More than half a century old prison building is made of stone and mud. The roof of the building is covered with soil. It has been found that there is a lot of problem for the security personnel in the same building as the residence of prisoners and security personnel is there. The prisoners and security personnel living in mustang jail building, which was established in 2037 BS, have been forced to suffer due to lack of necessary physical infrastructure.

At present, the kargar building has been covered with zinc after the water started leaking. Not only security personnel but also administrative staff live in the same prison building. Prisoners, security personnel and staff have been facing problems due to the lack of upgradation of the dilapidated building of the jail built of stone and mud built long ago. The jail building in Mustang has been feeling unsafe lately due to the increasing rainfall in mustang in the recent past.

There are eight employees in the jail. There is a prison administrator, an assistant accountant, a health worker, a buyer, an assistant computer operator and three office assistants.

Out of the total posts, the posts of jail administrator, health worker, buyer and an office assistant are vacant. The post of assistant computer operator working here has also been transferred. There is a problem in the management of the prison as the Department of Prison Management has not been able to fill the posts of administrative staff as per the vacancy in the prison here.

Similarly, 11 security personnel have been deployed in the jail under the command of a senior sub-inspector. The prison has a total capacity of 15 inmates. At present, there are 12 prisoners in the age group of 22 to 68 years in the prison, according to acting administrator of the prison, Yubaraj Timilsina.

According to Acting Chief Timilsina, the prison does not have a separate residential building for security personnel, there is no vehicle required in the prison, there is a problem of drinking water, the wall of the prison is not strong, there is a problem of water leakage in the prison and there is a problem in taking the prisoners to the court for medical treatment and extension of remand.
