Kanchanpur. Kanchanpur has been put on high alert after bird flu infection was detected in Uttarakhand and adjoining areas of India. Nepal has been alerted with awareness after the infection was confirmed in the border areas.

The District Bird Flu Disease Control Committee has tightened the import and export of birds and bird products at the border points and is conducting awareness programs in the border municipalities.

Shyam Khadka, chief of the Veterinary Hospital and Animal Service Expert Center in the district, said that an awareness campaign has been launched and vigilance has been taken to prevent the spread of infection in Nepal.

Awareness programmes on bird flu control and ban have been organized in Dodharachandani, Belauri, Punarbas, Bhimdutta municipality and Beldandi rural municipality bordering India, he said.

Khadka said, “We have been conducting awareness programs on the Nepal side after the confirmation of bird flu infection in the Indian border areas.” ’

He said that if the infection spreads, all the chickens reared in this area have to be destroyed, so awareness is necessary for timely control. Chief Khadka said that if the infection occurs, the chickens will die, wheeze and do not eat fodder. He urged all the farmers to immediately inform the veterinary specialist or veterinary hospital and animal service specialist center if such symptoms are seen in the chickens they rear.

Meanwhile, the District Bird Flu Disease Control Committee has decided to completely ban the import of Indian chickens to Nepal. A meeting held on Tuesday decided to take high alertness to prevent the spread of bird flu in Nepal after various media outlets confirmed the spread of bird flu in Bageshwar and Udham Singh Nagar of Uttarakhand state of India.

The committee has completely banned the import and transportation of birds and bird products from the border areas of Rehabilitation, Belauri, Beldandi, Dodharachandani and Bhimdutta municipalities 1, 2 and 10 of Kanchanpur.

Khadka said a team comprising representatives from all security agencies, veterinary hospitals and animal service experts centre and animal quarantine office would carry out emergency monitoring for effective implementation of the decision.

According to him, the committee has decided to take strict control of such materials and take action as per the law if they are found importing materials illegally during the monitoring.
