Lalitpur. The historic Patan Durbar Area, listed in the list of World Heritage sites, has become more attractive and beautiful. Lalitpur Metropolitan City has removed the old Chinese bricks in the area and laid the indigenous telia bricks, which shows the beauty and cleanness of the heritage.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has completed the work of removing old Chinese bricks at a cost of around Rs 15.2 million and laying locally produced indigenous ‘Talya’ bricks. This brick is a traditional type of brick used since the Malla period, which is considered strong, durable and aesthetic.
Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiribabu Maharjan said, “Telia brick is a native brick, it is very bright and strong. Since the old bricks are not useful, we have laid new telia bricks for the conservation of heritage. ’
According to Mayor Maharjan, Chinese bricks were laid during the coronation of the then King Birendra Shah, which had become dilapidated with time. The same brick has been removed and now the talya brick has been placed, which does not allow water to freeze and looks clean. The surface of the heritage area has also increased by about four inches after the bricks were placed.
Upendra Kumar Shrestha, a local, said that the metropolis has done a very positive job. “The Patan Durbar area looked dirty due to the old bricks,” he said, adding that it now looks very bright and clean. It is easy to clean, there is no problem of water logging. Very good work has been done. ’
It seems that the metropolis has tried to increase tourism attraction along with the preservation of historical heritage through such works. The Metropolitan City, which has been continuing the repair and reconstruction of the palace area, has pledged to preserve the originality of the area in the future as well.
