Jhapa. JHAPA: Two inmates who escaped from Sundhara prison in Kathmandu have been arrested in Jhapa district.
The arrestees have been identified as Anjali Khatun, 50, and Suraj Kamat, 50, both residents of Khajurgachhi in Gauriganj-6, Jhapa. According to the District Police Office, Khatun, who was serving a jail sentence for drug smuggling, had escaped during the agitation on September 10. Police arrested him from the Indian border last night when he was on his way to flee to India.
A joint patrol team under the command of Deputy Superintendent of APF Suman Thapa from the proposed Border Security Company of the Armed Police Force Nepal and Police Inspector Bhuwan Babu Khadka from the Area Police Office, Gauriganj arrested Khatun from the border area of Gauriganj-5. Khatun has been kept at the Area Police Office, Gaurigunj.
Similarly, another youth who absconded during the agitation has been arrested in the Indian bordering area. A joint patrol team of Pektola SSB Camp along the Indo-Nepal border and Tedhagachh police arrested them on Wednesday night. The arrested is Suraj Kamat of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-3 in Morang. The Indian police arrested him from the border area and handed him over to the Nepal Police. Kamat was arrested some 200 meters away from pillar number 154 on the Nepal-India border.
He had entered the Indian border on foot via e-rickshaw via Ambari of Nepal. He was serving a prison sentence on drug charges. He was handed over to the Area Police Office, Gauriganj for further investigations.
