Kathmandu. The government has decided to form a high-level transport management committee to make the travel of passengers safe and smooth during the current situation and festivals, and to facilitate the transport management by addressing the complaints received.
Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Keshav Kumar Sharma, said that the meeting took a 6-point decision including the formation of a committee under the coordination of Director General of the Department of Transport Management.
The meeting was held today under his chairmanship. The committee will comprise the chief of Nepal Police Headquarters, Highway Security Division, Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office and President of National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs among other stakeholders.
The meeting also decided to construct a passenger help desk as per the need for technical inspection of vehicles going out of the Kathmandu Valley during the festival time, said senior vice-chair of Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs Saroj Sitaula.
The meeting also decided to urge stakeholders including Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs to make arrangements for transportation so that passengers going out of Kathmandu Valley can go to their destinations easily during the present situation and festivals.
Likewise, it has been decided to take necessary process for proper compensation by assuring the damaged public vehicles and offices damaged during the agitation and to provide necessary materials for traffic police from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Road Safety Council, among others.
Sitaula said that the meeting also decided to issue a notice immediately to stop the smuggling of weapons and other materials looted during the agitation.
