Landslide collapses six houses in Parbat, 10 at high risk

Mountains. Six houses at Thanamula of Phalebas municipality-8 were completely destroyed when a landslide occurred below the settlement due to incessant rainfall on Saturday night.

Similarly, 10 houses are at high risk. Locals Min Bahadur Nepali, Nanda Kumari Bhandari, Dil Bahadur Gurung, Asmita Sarki, Laxmi Pariyar and another vacant house collapsed due to the collapse, said ward chair Man Bahadur Kunwar.

No human or livestock has been reported so far. The damage was not done as the land had started cracking and the livestock had already moved to a safer place. The landslide has reached the village from a rivulet below the settlement for the past few years.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rabin Bista informed that the displaced families have been accommodated at the playground of nearby Janajyoti Secondary School.

A team from the district-based disaster management committee, Phalebas municipality mayor Gangadhar Tiwari, deputy mayor Shova Chhetri and local people’s representatives inspected the site. Mayor of the municipality Gangadhar Tiwari said the families displaced by the municipality have been provided five tents for temporary shelter.

He said that initiatives would be taken through the District Disaster Management Committee to rehabilitate the displaced families and construct shelter in safer places.
