Still. Drinking water supply has been disrupted after a landslide swept away a pipe in Byas municipality-1. The water supply has been affected after a landslide occurred near the Khirkhadi source in Byas-13 swept away about 40 meters of the GI pipe.
The Bhadgaun Drinking Water and Consumer Committee has been bringing water from around 13 kilometers away and distributing it to the consumers, said Ishwor Shrestha, manager of the organization. He said, “We have been facing difficulties in the distribution of water due to the damage in the drinking water pipes due to incessant rainfall from September 14 to September 18. He said that human resources including technicians have been mobilized to facilitate the distribution of drinking water.
The organization has been supplying drinking water to 2,680 households in Byas-1 and 12 by collecting water from four small and big projects—Chhabdi source and two lifts in Chhabdi River. Long distances, geographical remoteness, lack of human resources, adverse weather conditions and floods and landslides during the rainy season have resulted in disruption of drinking water.
According to the committee, 15 liters of water per second is being collected in tanks from four small and big projects and distributed to the consumers.
The Madinadi Lift Drinking Water Project is being constructed with 70 percent investment from the government and 30 percent from the Bhadgaon Water Supply Organization. The project has been constructed at a cost of Rs 190 million and 70 per cent progress has been achieved so far, said Chij Bahadur Darai, chairperson of the organization.
Parajuli Construction, which was awarded the contract for the project, had signed an agreement in August 2089 with the intention of completing the project by September 2080. “The construction of the main reserve tank with a capacity of four lakh liters has been completed and the work of guard house and filter media is underway,” he said. ’
