Mustang. Sheep and mountain goats worth more than Rs 350 million were exported from Mustang this year. According to the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Centre, a total of 14,668 sheep and mountain goats have been exported from Dolpa, Mugu and Jumla of Karnali Province for the Dashain festival.
According to Centre’s veterinarian Dr Lalmani Aryal, the average quantity of sheep and mountain goats was estimated to be worth more than Rs 350 million. Of the sheep and mountain goats exported this year, 7,668 were local and 6,868 were from Dolpa, Mugu and Jumla. Mustang’s share in this is estimated to be Rs 20 crore.
The price of a mountain goat is Rs 35,000, a sheep is Rs 28,000 and a mountain goat is priced at Rs 12,000.
According to local experts, the number of sheep and mountain goats exported from here to outside the district could be even more. They argue that the number could be higher as the mountain goat owners do not disclose the exact number when the expert center tests the animal’s health.
