Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: As many as 234 sick contracts for the construction of roads and bridges that have been in limbo for years will be terminated.
The contracts under the Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office under the Department of Roads, the Postal Highway and the Mid-Hill Highway are to be terminated.
Similarly, 38 contracts under the Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office in Damak, 75 in Kathmandu, 39 in Pokhara, 49 in Surkhet, 16 in the Postal and 17 in the Madhyapadi Highway have been affected. A committee is to be formed to investigate the then and present responsible employees involved in making the contract sick without carrying out the work that should be done on behalf of the project.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kulman Ghising on Saturday held discussions with secretaries and joint secretaries at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure, Director General of Department of Roads, chiefs of Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office, project chiefs, among others.
Minister Ghising said that the tendency of signing contract by accepting less amount and investing the amount elsewhere after taking mobilization advance would come to an end if the sick contract is scrapped.
“The state has been spending billions of rupees every year for road construction but not carrying out the works,” he said, adding, “The state has been spending billions of rupees every year for road construction but the citizens have not been able to reap the benefits of it. He said. “Whoever is involved in the sick contract, please break the contract freely without being tempted by anyone, this step will be an important milestone to maintain good governance, I will fully protect you.” ”
Contracts with more than 20 million contracts are considered sick contracts that have achieved less than 50 per cent progress even though the deadline has been extended by more than 100 per cent of the deadline as per the construction agreement. Likewise, those contracts with more than 20 million contract points have less than 80 per cent progress and over 20 million contract points have achieved 95 per cent progress despite more than 400 per cent of the deadline being extended.
Minister Ghising said that the Ministry and its subordinate offices would take immediate action against those involved in irregularities, dilly-dally, taking bribes and harassing service seekers in various pretexts. He also directed the employees to immediately inform if anyone causes unnecessary trouble by selling his name.
