Jhapa. The floods have inundated 450 houses. Spokesperson at the District Police Office, Deputy Superintendent Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, informed that the flood in the river following incessant rainfall since October 1 has inundated houses in different places of the district.
“Rescue operation is underway with the help of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and locals”, he said, adding that around 100 households have been shifted to the shelter. He further informed that the East-West Highway has been disrupted due to rising water from Kalikhola at Mechinagar municipality-6.
Similarly, the flooded Sukuna River at Shivasatakshi Municipality-10 has swept away the hum pipe, disrupting vehicular movement. Spokesperson Khadka said works are underway to resume the obstructed road. As many as 140 people from 56 households have been displaced when the settlement entered the Thulo Maikhola settlement at Sugagaban of Jhapa rural municipality-2. They were rescued and shifted to the local Kuwadi Secondary School.
Similarly, 350 houses have been inundated in Shivasatakshi Municipality-4, 5, 6 and 7 due to flood in Mai River. Their rescue operation is underway. Floods have entered Maikhola in ward no 1, 6 and 7 of Jhapa. Spokesperson Khadka said that rescue operations of the flood victims are underway.
Similarly, 25 houses in Bhadrapur Municipality-5 have been inundated. According to the District Police Office, around 25 houses in Mechinagar-15 are at risk of being inundated by the inundation. Rescue and relocation of flood victims is underway.
