Myagdi. MYAGDI: Vehicular movement has been affected along the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road section along the Kaligandaki corridor due to a landslide at Siruwari of Raghuganga rural municipality-2 in Myagdi district. The road also connects Raghuganga and Annapurna rural municipalities in the northern part of Myagdi district with the Beni-Jomsom Chin and India.

Vehicular movement has been hampered in the middle of the road from Kaligandaki River to Majhkharka of Bhagawati due to the landslide. Transport entrepreneur Bhoj Bahadur Thapa said landslides have affected the Beni-Jomsom road section.

“Landslides occur at the time of normal rainfall and the vehicles have to cross the road risking on the narrow and muddy road,” he said. ’

There is the Kaligandaki River below the road and there is a landslide about eight hundred meters above and two hundred meters wide. It has turned into a landslide. There is also a risk in the settlement of Majhkharka. Large containers going to and from Korala border point also use this road.

Buses and vehicles heading to Mustang have been jammed in the Sirubari landslide. Balman Gauchan, ward member of Raghuganga rural municipality-1, said the traffic jam is created due to the congested vehicles. Two-way vehicular movement is not possible in the landslide area as it is congested.

The Beni-Jomsom road section has been most obstructed this monsoon at Siruwari and Khamvitta. The Beni-Jomsom-Korala road project has kept dozers and loaders on standby near the landslide. Project engineer Bishnu Chapagain said that the vehicles have been operating by clearing landslides throughout the rainy season.

He said that after the rain stops, the landslide will be cleared and cleaned up and two-way traffic will be maintained. “A study is being carried out to prevent the landslide at Siruwari”, he said. ’

Chapagain said that preparations have been made to sign the contract for the landslide prevention project at Chamere, Baisari, Guithebhir and Latakhola along the Beni-Jomsom road and for the construction of road in the landslide-affected areas of Rupse area.
